Approach: Impact on vegetation

  • To build a database with the species that occur in the basin of Rio Doce, comprising, for each species, author’s and family’s names, State and Municipal District of occurrence as well as their geographical coordinates.
  • To check the phytophysiognomies that are distributed in the impacted area (Classification of the vegetation according to IBGE, 2012): Semideciduous forest, dense Ombrophilous forest (preserved or secondary riparian  forests ); swamp forest; pasture; etc;
  • To categorize the endemic and endangered species (IUCN classification; MMA, for example);
  • To draw up a map with the distribution of the species, overlaying the stricken areas, as a basis to quantify the level of impact on the vegetation of the basin, especially for endemic and endangered species; This map will also be important to implement various scientific and technical studies in the area, aiming its recovering;
  • To develop a set of proposals aiming the environmental recovering of Rio Doce Basin – Planning of nursery work, planting, seed bank, identification of native species to be used in each phase.
